Deming Police Department Explorers / Pee Wee Explorers

The Deming Police Department Explorer program is designed to provide hands-on, real-world experience to young men and women interested in law enforcement. Our curriculum is designed to complement classroom studies and enables explorers to develop marketable leadership skills in any profession.  The program is intended to develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills as well as provide scenario based experience in law enforcement.  This year we have added the PeeWee Explorer's with limited seats available to give 5-7 yr old's the opportunity to engage with public safety!

Own Your Future is non-traditional approach to educating the underserved community of Deming, Luna County, NM that establishes the mindset that you can be anything you WORK toward. This education and outreach is done through specific segments aimed at building an individuals confidence, skillset, and helping the individual understand the theory behind some of the most common employment practices.

Boost Your Business Series

 The Boost Your Business program is a series of virtual hour-long workshops, webinars, and group sessions throughout the year that offer small businesses the opportunity to learn, network, and grow their businesses.  

The series intends to:

  • Connect local businesses to entities with resources;
  • Give local businesses a voice;
  • Support local industries in growth;
  • Give local business the opportunity to learn new skills;
  • Leverage existing programs and partners.

Loco for Local is a fresh spin on the average shop local campaigns and is intended to:

  • Increase the longevity and impact of shop local campaigns by educating the community on the importance of local businesses to our economy
  • Showcase our current locally owned businesses so they keep choosing Deming!
  • Allow entrepreneurs to connect with existing local champions and gain knowledge and experience in their market
  • Increase the success of ALL businesses 
  • Decrease leakage of holiday spending

This one-week summer camp is open to 7th & 8th grade students and creates the opportunity to learn about starting a business, operating a business, and selling their products! 


The dates for the upcoming camp are June 2-6, 2025; 9-12 PM; at City Hall.

REGISTRATION WILL OPEN APRIL 14 AT 7 AM. Seats are limited.

DLCED is a proud to support the Luna County Skate Committee in their program that works to: 

1) engage the local skate community and host skate competitions 

2) enhance and expand the local skate park and facilities

Manufacturing Day is observed the first Friday of October each year. We participate by showcasing our local manufacturing industry throughout the month of October through different social media programs and tours.

 Project SEARCH is a one year immersive internship experience which prepares young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities for success in competitive, integrated employment.  The City of Deming is the host employer for this national program.  

fUTURE EVENTS

Health careers HEAL - help, experience, attitude, learn

Formerly known as the "Health Career Academy" the HEAL program offers high school students the opportunity to learn about what it takes to enter the healthcare industry. 


Help- students learn the value of volunteering at local non-profits, the college application experience, and different programs that can get them to their desired career path. 


Experience- Students get the opportunity to do site visits to different healthcare institutions in Deming. If they choose to continue in the program, they will even get to do job shadowing rotations.


Attitude - Students will learn how challenging the healthcare industry careers are and how important it is to always treat patients and colleagues with respect and dignity. 


Learn - The 4-year summer program is designed so that students take one college level course during the summer and get dual-credit through Western NM and Deming Public Schools.
